Three Good Books on Raising Children:
"Hold on to Your Kids" (by Gordon Neufeld and Gabor Mate M.D.) is an excellent book that doesn't really promote homeschooling specifically. Rather, it speaks to the concerning issue of today's children giving their peers that important position of guide and counsellor-- a position we parents need to hold on to. Full of practical and sensible tactics for maintaining that role in your child's life, plus fairly revolutionary ways to reclaim that role if it has already been usurped.
Shepherding a Child's Heart by Tedd Tripp contains excellent insight about helping a child change his inner heart and attitudes rather than only his outer behavior.
Two great online articles on Homeschooling:
'Common Objections to Homeschooling.' by John Holt. This article was one that helped 'tip' us over the edge into a decision to homeschool. John Holt is a widely recognized authority on the issue of homeschooling versus regular schooling, having decades of experience in both fields. We've appreciated his candid, intelligent way of addressing misconceptions about homeschooling. I want to look into more stuff from this author.
"Older Kids- Decompression" by Cafi Cohen. A terrific article! It's hard to find resources directly related to the more rare issue of starting homeschooling in the middle of a child's education. We've been relieved to know that the kids' behaviors and emotions during this transition are normal and healthy. Whew!
A hearty blog by an experienced and successful homeschooling mom:
